Abstract
Many methods exist for interface analysis in human-computer interaction (HCI). Models of visual search have been proposed in both basic psychological research and applied HCI research. Unfortunately, these models are limited in their ability to predict visual search behavior for a broad range of tasks and interfaces, and are therefore not ready as analytical tools for visual search of computer interfaces. This research synthesizes approaches for analyzing visual interfaces and predicting visual search behavior, proposing a set of required components for predicting visual search for interface evaluation.
