Abstract

Dale Smith will give a preview of the upcoming Summer School Workshop of Network Design and Operations. This workshop will give Oregon students a unique opportunity to take a one week intensive course in networking with international classmates from China, Africa, South America, and the Himalayan region.

A team of instructors from the Network Resource Startup Center will train students in campus networking essentials, including physical cabling, switching architectures, routing in the campus network environment, wireless technologies, and network management. The course is hands-on, lab-based with an emphasis on practical design of high performance, scalable campus networks. See http://nsrc.org/workshops/2009/summer for more details.

This course will be held July 20-24, 9 am to 5 pm in Room 100 Deschutes. On Sunday, July 19 an optional UNIX/IP Fundamentals Prep Course will be offered. Also from 9 to 5. CIS majors may take these courses for elective credit and for the networking track by registering through the UO Summer School. CIS graduate students may also arrange to take this class.

Co-sponsored by the Network Startup Resource Center (www.nsrc.org) and the CIS Department CPATHi18n Project (www.cpathi18n.org).

International refreshments will be served after the talk.
