(Saturday, October 10, 2009) There was some extraneous code in the skeleton Java provided for Problem 2.3 that referred to the day of the week. This has been removed and you only need to find the day of the year as the description specifies. The day of the week calculation will be in a later assignment.

(Thursday, October 7, 2009) There will be an ACM movie night on Sunday, October 11. The movie "Breaking the Code" will be shown. It is a biography of Alan Turing. The movie will be shown in Deschutes 220 at 4PM. All are invited.

(Wednesday, October 6, 2009) Assignment 2 has expressions using the Java conditional operator ? :. A slide (number 30) has been added to the week 2 slides to cover this and it is also described in the Sun tutorial conditional operators. This operator, which is also called the ternary operator, has three operands. The first is a boolean expression, and it is used to choose between the second and third operands. Only one of the second or third operands will be evaluated. This is very much like an if-else statement except that the operator forms a single expression and results in a value that can be assigned, e.g.,
int min = (a < b ? a : b);
The operator has very low precedence, but higher than assignment.
