CIS Core Requirements

Effective Fall 2009


To obtain a B.S. or B.A. in Computer and Information Science, you must complete the following core courses, of which at least 24 credits must be completed in residence at UO.

54 credits total

Curricula Credits
Lower-Division Courses (24 credits)  
Complete the following sequences concurrently. All courses must be taken graded.  
CIS 210-212 Introduction to Computer Science I-II-III 12
MATH 231-233 Elements of Discrete Mathematics I-II-III 12
Fundamental Courses (14 credits)  
Complete the following courses. All courses must be taken graded. CIS 323 must be completed concurrently with CIS 313.  
CIS 313 Intermediate Data Structures 4
CIS 323 Data Structures Lab 2
CIS 314 Computer Organization 4
CIS 315 Intermediate Algorithms 4
Upper-Division Courses (12 credits)  
Complete the following courses. All courses must be taken graded.  
CIS 415 Operating Systems 4
CIS 422 Software Methodology I 4
CIS 425 Principles of Programming Languages 4
Writing Course (4 credits)  
Complete one of the following courses. The course may be taken Pass/No Pass or Graded  
WR 320 Scientific and Technical Writing 4
WR 321 Business Communications 4
