String of Successes for Recent Alum, Moira Burke
Congratulations to our recent alum Moira Burke for an extraordinary string of recent successes:
- Admission to the Ph.D. program at Carnegie-Mellon University for Fall 2005, to work in one of the strongest HCI research group in the world;
- An AT&T Fellowship which will provide three years of support, including tuition, stipend, books, conference travel and research internships http://www.research.att.com/academic/alfp.html;
- An accepted article (pending minor revisions) in ACM Transactions on Computer Human Interaction: Burke, M., Hornof, A., Nilsen, E., & Gorman, N. High-cost banner blindness: Ads increase perceived workload, hinder visual search, and are forgotten.

Moira received a Bachelor of Arts, Summa Cum Laude in Computer and Information Science in 2001 from the University of Oregon. She completed a UO Honors College thesis under the direction of Prof. Anthony Hornof. Among many honors and awards, she was selected Phi Beta Kappa "Oregon Six" (one of top six graduating seniors at UO); received the Mildred Braaten Archibald Scholarship in Science and Math, 2000; and the Distributed Mentorship Program, Computing Research Association in 1999 and 2000.
