Ph.D. Student Yunfeng Zhang Starts Summer Internship at PARC
Fifth-Year Ph.D. Student Yunfeng Zhang is spending the summer of 2013 at PARC (Palo Alto Research Center), the highly innovative company responsible for inventions such as the personal computer, the graphical user interface, and the laserprinter. This summer, Yunfeng will contribute to an exciting interdisciplinary multi-institution collaboration that investigates human cognitive sensemaking using symbolic- and neural-cognitive models. The project team includes PARC, Carnegie Mellon University, University of California Irvine, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Texas Houston, and numerous other top research labs.
Yunfeng's Ph.D. advisor Associate Professor Anthony Hornof explains how this internship is a great opportunity for Yunfeng, and how Yunfeng will also be able to contribute a lot to this interdisciplinary project at PARC. "Yunfeng has exhibited great expertise and creativity in terms of integrating advanced computer science concepts and approaches, such as cluster-based computing, with contemporary advances in cognitive science, such as new theoretical approaches for identifying the unconscious task strategies that humans apply to visual search and multitasking. And what is more he has also published on all of these topics. He will be very happy to work on this incredibly challenging project at PARC."
