alt text

Computer science major David Widder is one of four outstanding students nominated by the University of Oregon for the national prestigious Goldwater scholarship.

The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program was created in 1986 to encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in mathematics, natural sciences, or engineering, and to foster excellence in those fields. As many as 300 recipients are selected from about 1200 nominations by universities and colleges across the country.

In his scholarship application David wrote about how his work with Professors Stephen Fickas and McKay Sohlberg (College of Education) motivated him to research the possibility of an intuitive app to help build social skills for people with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

UO Computer Science graduate student Hannah Pruse was a previous nominee for a Goldwater Scholarship. Finalists for this year's Goldwater scholarships will be announced in late March.
