Biography
John Conery earned a B.S. in Psychology from UC San Diego in 1976, and a Ph.D. in Information and Computer Science from UC Irvine in 1983. He has been on the faculty at the University of Oregon since 1983. His research has been in the areas of parallel programming languages and high performance computing. For the last 15 years he has been working with colleagues in the UO Biology Department on a wide variety of projects related to bioinformatics and computational biology.

- Sequence alignment using minimum description length (a branch of information theory)
- Data-driven workflow management for bioinformatics
- Next-generation sequencing, genomics, and systems biology
