Streaming Media
From Dummies Guide to Google Blogger:
Streaming Audio or Streaming Video, both also called as Streaming Media is multimedia that is continuously received by, and normally displayed to, the end-user while it is being delivered by the provider.
It is a method of transmitting files so that a part of the file starts playing in your Media Player while the rest of the file is being received. The file is not saved to your disk or PC. Part of the file is received into a 'buffer' from which it is played while the rest of the file arrives. Hence the viewer experience depends on the speed of your Internet connection. The file may freeze while playing if due to a dial-up connection enough of it has not arrived in the 'buffer'.

-
Create a brief video of any kind, using your cell phone, digital camera, etc. Given the time of year, if you have a nifty costume for Halloween, that would make an excellent video to put on your blog.
- Add your video to your blog: Login to Blogger Dashboard and click on +New Post link.
Name your post Direct Upload Video: title of your video. Then in Post Editor click the new square 'Add Video' icon in top frame.
- Alternative to this requirement: If you do not have access to a video camera, do the following:
Find an MP3 of a music track you enjoy on any MP3 hosting service like the Internet Archive Audio Archive, Odeo.com, MP3.com, etc.
Copy the embed tag for the MP3 track and embed the player in this posting on your blog. Name your post Embedded MP3 Player: title of your MP3 track.
If you'd like to embed an MP3 you have on your local host (PC, iPod, etc.), read How to Embed Your Own MP3's.
- Project 3-B Grading Rubric. This document describes
how your lab instructor (GTF) will grade your project.
You should assess your project using this rubric before turning in your project.
Also, this would be a good exercise for each member of your VLT: assess each
other's work using this rubric before submitting it.

Web Agility: FIT Skills for CIS 110
Once a new technology starts rolling, if you're not part of
the steamroller, you're part of the road. -- Stewart Brand
In general, to work on your 110 projects, you will learn to coordinate a set
of internet- and web-based technologies, each with their own user interface.
These will include the following and others:
- Google's Blogger.com with streaming media
- CSS
- SSH for remote login and secure copy
- a Mozilla web browser (Firefox or Mozilla)
- Basic Unix commands for uoregon.edu (our 110 web server)
- TextPad (for creating XHTML files), or Taco for the Mac
- XHTML (source code and validator)
In addition, Windows XP Pro provides the desktop environment that integrates
these technolgies into a single workspace. A main goal of project 1 is to get
started with the 110 development environment and standard problem-solving procedures.
Although it may seem complex at first, you will quickly become Fluent with
IT (a.k.a. "web
agile").
