Dreamweaver Collaboration
Check In & Check Out

NOTE: check out/in requires a shared, single account on the remote host. Therefore it will not work for 382 VLT teams.

In a VLT collaborative environment where several people are working on a site, the files on your computer may not be the latest ones.

Using Dreamweaver's check-in/check-out feature, your group uses the remote host uoregon.edu as the master copy of your site files. The latest version of a file is always on the remote host.

When one member has a file checked out for editing, DW ensures no one else can access that file until it is checked back in.

To do this successfully, each VLT member must:

  1. Have DW installed on her/his computer (the local host).
  2. Configure DW as an SFTP client.
  3. Use only DW for file uploads and downloads. Using SSH or another application can easily overwrite files that have been checked out in DW.

Uoregon.edu is Not a Testing Server

You cannot use the Check In/ Check Out system with a testing server.

Setting up the Check In/Check Out system

In the Site Definition dialog box, select Remote Info, and check Enable File Check In and Check Out.
