Lab Outline week 4
What you will do in lab
Your GTF will introduce you to using Dreamweaver for site managment and secure FTP as described in DW Help > Working with Dreamweaver sites > Setting up a Dreamweaver site:
About Dreamweaver sites
Understanding local and remote folder structure
Set up and edit a local root folder
Set up a remote folder
You will use shell.uoregon.edu as the remote host for project 3.
- Set up and edit a local root folder: create a new site named 382, using your 382 from projects 1 and 2 as the local root folder.
- Set up a remote folder: Edit your 382 site, click the Advanced tab, select the Remote Info category and select the FTP access method.
Set options for FTP access as follows:
FTP host: shell.uoregon.edu
Host directory: public_html/382/
Enter the login name and password that you use to connect to the FTP server.
Click Test to test your login name and password.
Deselect the Save password option (you're in a public computing lab).
Select Use SFTP (secure ftp)
- Use DW to work on your Project 3 web pages.
Your instructor will show you the basics of using DW to edit web pages using Code View and Design View.
To work on your P3 files, select Local View in the Files window and open BH-home.html. Use File > Preview in Browser to open the BH-home.html in Firefox.
Also in the Files window, click the Connect to Remote Host icon. If you select Remote View, you'll see the files in your site folder on shell.uoregon.edu, in the directory ~/public_html/382/.
To install BH-home.html on the remote host, click the File Management icon on the Document Toolbar, and select Put.
To view BH-home.html on the remote host, enter the URL http://www.uoregon.edu/~yourDuckID/382/.
- DW is an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) for creating and maintaining websites: You can use DW as a web page editor and the Preview in Browser command to develop a web page. When the document is finished, you then use DW as an ftp client to install the document on a production server (remote host).
