Suggested mechanics for the Eugene, OR area
A while back I asked if anyone in my department could suggest a good mechanic. These are the responses I got.
- Don't know if they work on Honda's but I like University Service on Agate
and 19th. They're pricey but good and honest (I think). And you can walk to
work after leaving your car off.
- I've been going to the same mechanic since 1981, he's great - honest, good
and a really good guy. (I can't believe it's been 22 years!)
He has his garage, River Road Automotive, at 1353 River Road, phone
688-8765. The building looks like a red barn on the east side of the road.
There is another garage on River Road (on the west) but they are
underhanded and sneaky. My mechanics name is Eric Bowser.
Tell 'im I sent you.
- Wayne's Garage on 27th and Willamette is pretty good....
- We have had good luck with the local Honda dealer (Kendall Honda).
- Sandpiper on E. 13th. Not cheap, but very thorough and honest.
We've used them for many years and are very satisfied.
- My neighbor is a good mechanic. Dan Edgar Auto Repair 342-1939.
- Gerhard Forstner, 991 W. 10th. 344-6379.
We took our Volvo and later our Honda to this man for years, and he was
top-notch (he used to be a race-car mechanic) and extremely reasonable,
rates-wise. He's also very good about using quality used parts when he
can get them, etc.
Now that we drive a Ford, I haven't checked in with him for a few years,
but a phone call should tell you whether he's still in business.
- C&L Auto repair rules. They do pick up and drop-offs, and won't try to pressure sell you anything you don't need. I was very impressed.
- if you don't get any better advice, when i've been new to town, i've checked the _Car Talk_ web site. do you know this show? its a car advice show on public radio. they have a list of mechanics, submitted by other listeners. you can search by zip code.
- I've had decent luck with euro-asian across Franklin from campus and
with wagon works at 13th and Lawrence, but neither was for anything
hard.
- I've shopped around and finally come to the conclusion that the
Honda Dealership (Kendall) actually charges less than some other good mechanics in town, has the best supply of parts and don't advise you to buy things that
you don't need. Surprising! I'd recommend them.
- I recommend EuroAsian automotive, which is on Franklin across from the
Wendy's, just east of Deschutes. I've been bringing my cars to them for
about 6 years.
I ended up at Sandpiper Imports. I followed the advice that said to check out
the Car Talk
Website, and it had nothing but great reviews for Sandpiper. However, I
have since started going to Kendall Honda, and I have been somewhat happy with
them. The most recent repair was a replacement of the timing belt and all
other belts, but they just re-used one of them. When it continued to squeak, I
took it back, and made them replace it. The excuse was that it was a belt for
an aftermarket air conditioner, and since it wasn't original equipment, they
just didn't replace it. Not a very good excuse, especially considering it was
the belt that squeaked, and they didn't tell me this excuse at the time that
the repair was done the first time.
