Abstract

Red Storm is a massively parallel computer being developed for Sandia National Laboratory with over 10,000 AMD Opteron processors connected by an innovative high speed, high bandwidth 3D mesh interconnect designed by Cray. Cray is developing a product based on the Red Storm architecture and software called Cray RS. This talk describes the Red Storm system. It outlines the system goals, its hardware and packaging, and its operating systems and programming environment, that together form the integrated environment for the applications developer.
