Abstract

CIS Alumnus Gurdeep Singh Pall is a recipient of the UO CAS Distinguished Alumni Fellow Award for 2007. Gurdeep will share his experiences as student, software engineer, corporate manager, and corporate vice president with CIS students and faculty.

Biography

Gurdeep received his M.S. from the CIS Department in 1989 and his B.S. from Birla Institute of Technology in India, He has worked as part of the Windows NT development core team, and as general manager of Windows Networking and of Windows Real-time Communications. In 1996, he received the prestigious Innovation of the Year Award from PC Magazine for co-authoring the first VPN protocol in the industry, the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP). Gurdeep was recently promoted to Corporate VP of the Unified Communications Group which is responsible for developing Microsoft's strategies in real time collaboration spaces and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) strategy.
