Large scale computing platforms are increasingly important to society. Operating these systems can be extremely expensive for the owning organization and the spending must be justified in terms of the organization's objectives. This presentation looks at three CS topic areas that are important for building future automated system management solutions to aid in meeting organizational objectives within imposed constraints. The discussion is motivated by power constraints for future HPC systems.
