When you figure out your travel plans, please email Jim with the information about when you will be arriving in Eugene or Portland and by what means.

Checking In

1. Come to the University of Oregon — see References below

2. Check In to your room

   Your first meal is dinner on June 25 with the cafeteria closing at 8pm. (Yes, I write dates in the confusing American way, so "6/19/23" or "June 19, 2023" means 19. June 2023. Similarly, "$12,000.50" means $12.000,50.) People generally arrive between noon and 3AM on June 25.

   The instructions on the website above place you on 15^th & Agate. Walk East along 15^th Street, past the Knight Law Center on the corner, past the Museum of Natural and Cultural History on your right, to the Global Scholars Hall.

   • If you arrive between 4pm and 8pm on June 25

     Enter the front door of the Global Scholars Hall. The check-in desk is to the right.

   • If you arrive before 4pm on June 25

     Enter the front door of the Global Scholars Hall. Wait in the lounge to your left until 4pm.

   • If you arrive after 8pm on June 25

     If you are arriving after hours, please email me in advance when you will be arriving on campus. If you will not have a working cell phone when you arrive on campus, let me know.

     Outside the front door of the Global Scholars Hall, call 541-346-9114, and a staff member will open the door and check you in.

Checking Out

Your last meal is lunch, Sunday 7/9. When you leave, please place your key, the access card and meal card back in the envelope you received upon check-in. Keep the University of Oregon lanyard.

If the front desk is open, give them the packet. If the front desk is closed, drop the packet in the slot on the wall next to the desk.

  The airport code for Eugene is EUG. The only transport between the airport and campus is taxi or ride share.

• Portland Airport

  The airport code for Portland is PDX. If you tell me when your flight lands at pdx before you arrange travel to Eugene, I can tell you who else will be travelling at that time. Sometimes, they will have their own car, and save you lots of hassle.

• Shuttle between Portland Airport and Campus
• Amtrak

  Amtrak uses airport codes. The Amtrak code for bus dropoff at the University of Oregon is EUO. Going from Eugene to Portland, you should avoid Amtrak trains 14 and 11.

  To go from the Portland Airport to Amtrak, south of the baggage claim at pdx, buy a TriMet ticket from the vending machine. Make sure you have an Adult 2 hour ticket ($2.50). Board the MAX Red Line . Take the Red Line to the Gateway Station. Get off at any station between Gateway and Rose Quarter. Remain at that station and board the Max Green Line travelling in the same direction. Get off at Union Station, the first stop after you cross the river. You will be on 5^th Avenue. Walk one block west to 6^th Avenue and one block north to Irving. Union Station has a big clock tower that you should see from the Green Line stop.

  • If your ticket is to EUG, Amtrak will take you to the Amtrak station on 4^th & Willamette. From the Amtrak station, you can either use a taxi, mass transit or walk.

    • Taxi

      If you want to take a taxi, there may be several taxis in front of the Amtrak station, but not always. You might want to book ahead using the links above. Tell the driver that you want to go to 15^th & Agate on campus.

    • Mass Transit

      The bus only comes once per hour until 9PM on Sundays. Walk one block south to the bus stop on 5^th & Willamette. (cross 5^th Street and walk right/West to the blue bus stop sign.) Board bus 40, "Eugene Station". When you board, tell the driver you want a day pass and pay $3.50. The driver cannot make change, so you must have the exact amount. Get off when the bus stops at Eugene Station. Board EMX "Springfield Station" and get off at the Agate Street Station. Walk South two blocks to 15th & Agate.

    • Walking

      Follow these simple walking instructions, or follow more complicated but shorter path on the map. Walk South along Willamette to 10^th Street, 6 blocks. At 6^th, Willamette Street will become a pedestrian path between the Hilton Hotel and the Center for the Performing Arts, becoming a street again at 7^th. At 10^th & Willamette,
      • keep walking to 13^th Street, and turn left/East walking to 13^th & Agate (about 15 blocks), turn right/South and walk to 15^th & Agate.
      • or buy a day pass for $3.50 and board EMX "Springfield Station" and get off at the Agate Street Station. Walk South to 15th & Agate.

  • If your ticket is to EUO, you will be travelling by bus which will take you to 15^th & Agate.
