Students receiving fellowships will be asked to contribute to the community of OPLSS. This may entail taking and sharing lecture notes, or similar tasks.

Letter of Recommendation

When applying for a grant, your advisor must submit a letter of recommendation detailing your academic preparedness and interest, and detailing the following points. (post-docs should address these in the Letter of Motivation ):

How will attending OPLSS further your academic progress?
What sources of funding will be used to cover travel and other expenses not covered by the fellowship grant?
Sponsors generally prioritize applicants who have some other institution covering the registration fee, as that is a sign that others are willing to support your work.

Your grant application is complete when we receive your advisor's letter of recommendation at summerschool@cs.uoregon.edu.

Grant Sources

Fellowship grants are funded by our sponsors. Certain sponsors may place restrictions that involve demographic criteria including citizenship status. Although citizenship status will not be considered in participation decisions, it may be considered in grant requests. Oregon State Law does not allow state programs to share citizenship status with federal law enforcement nor investigate federal laws, students who are US citizens and who receive grants from sources with that stipulation will be identified as citizens to the funding agency. The citizenship status of students not meeting these criteria will not be identified.
