Dance
on a cloud
The Crystal Ballroom was built during WWI. When my mom was a teenager in WWII, this was the most happenin' place in Portland. The dance floor is cantilevered (thought to be the only one in the US), so my mom says, "It's like dancing on a cloud." During the 1970's, it was closed down for featuring subversive rock-and-roll music, and people forgot about it. It was used as a warehouse for 30 years until McMenamins did some research and found out that the dance floor was still intact, so it reopened for the 21st century. - Take a walking tour of Portland's public art (poster of Portland's mayor giving the tour) or Portland's Fountains
